Our Story

KiQu was born from the collaboration of a chiropractor and a fashion designer who wanted to enhance the way we sit through functional design. They believe that we should design our environment to support our body, instead of passively allowing our body to morph to the environments we find ourselves in.

They noticed that chairs and back support tools hadn't changed much over the years. Chairs focus on providing comfort in commonly accepted positions, while back supports typically only target the lower back. KiQu is their solution, designed to improve body awareness and encourage more diverse sitting behaviors. The KiQu support combines research, craft and function. It is made in Italy, with high quality, design-forward materials that suit your lifestyle.

Three important elements inspired the creation of KiQu, each contributing to our mission of enhancing well-being and promoting efficient body use.

The Mitzvah Technique

At the heart of KIQU lies the profound influence of the Mitzvah Technique. This innovative bodywork, pioneered by Mr. Nehemia Cohen, spotlights the critical importance of unrestricted movement and awareness for our overall health, well-being, and performance. Cohen's genius unveils the often disregarded issues within our culture, where postural faults and movement restrictions silently contribute to painful and dysfunctional musculoskeletal conditions that affect individuals of all ages, activity levels, and lifestyles.

The Children In Motion Project

The second source of inspiration in KIQU's evolution was the Children In Motion Project, furthering our commitment to promoting physical well-being and movement in young individuals. This project, developed by a chiropractor and a professional modern dancer, aimed to address the impact of prolonged sitting on school-age children. Utilizing inflatable balls as tools, this project helped students recognize, develop, and refine their understanding of efficient body use throughout daily activities, differentiating between good and poor body use.

The Motus PASS

The third element naturally evolved out of the observations and outcomes from the Children In Motion (CIM) Project. This element is the Motus (Postural Air Support System) PASS, in many regards, the predecessor to KIQU. This simple design provides a rewarding sitting experience, unlike most other "back" supports. It not only serves as a lower back support but also a torso support, creating a dynamic relationship between the pelvis, spine, and head, encouraging good posture and overall physical mobility by subtle shifts in body position.
